 
David, descendant from Danish Vikings who settled in Yorkshire (England) during the ninth century. From the earliest times people from Northern Europe have been valued for their toughness and fighting ability. David has worked as an English coal miner, working six mile underground and also has worked in the steel industry. In these hard environments the body toughens as well as the mind. In the past Dave has been involved in No Rules Fighting. However this type of fighting takes its toll on the body as one gets older, and even winning can result in injury to one’s own body. David points out , eventually, a person has to learn to use skill and not just rely on brute force.
In the early 1990’s David met Ivar Hafskjold, who came to live in England. Ivar was to change David’s thinking and philosophy on fighting. Ivar had inherited from his family in Norway a system known as Stav, which contains within it, a fighting method based on the principles of the runes. The principle had been handed down in Ivar’s family for several generations. From training with Ivar, David developed his own method of Stav particularly suited for street defence against common street attacks, armed and unarmed
Today he teaches these methods in his martial school in Yorkshire England, as well as making regular visits to the Philippines and Australia where he teaches a group of students his method of Stav. Ivar has also given David recognition as a Stav Master. David is considered Herse ( Warrior ) in Stav Terms, and it is in the martial area he specializes, although he can teach other aspects.
